The Google Pixel 6a has now hit the shelves in Ireland. Google’s latest device release, the Google Pixel 6a is the mid-range entry in the latest generation of Pixel phones. The Pixel costs €459 in Ireland on pre-order after it became available on the 21st of July. Devices are expected to begin shipping on the 28th of July, and the phone will cost £399 in the U.K.
Irish Tech’s review unit came in Charcoal colour, but customers can choose from Sage and Chalk too.
The phone packaging will include a:
- Google Pixel 6a
- USB-C to USB-C cable
- SIM ejection tool
- Region-specific documentation, including Quick Start Guide
- USB OTG adapter
The Google 30W USB-C power adaptor which is recommended for use with the phone is not included in the package.
The Pixel 6a will come with three months of YouTube Premium and Google One free of charge and customers in Ireland who pre-order the device before the 28th of July will receive a free pair of Google Pixel Buds A-Series earbuds free with their order. The earbuds have up to five hours of listening time.
Google Pixel 6a: Features
The Google Pixel 6a includes a dual rear camera with an ultra-wide lens with multiple additional features to help you take photos, such as the magic eraser, which allows you to erase background objects, and Google’s Face Unblur which helps to stop blurry faces during motion. Nighttime photographers will be glad to hear that the camera also includes Google’s Night Sight technology which aids in taking low-light photography.
Google claims that the Pixel’s Adaptive Battery can last for more than 24 hours, which can last as long as 72 hours when in Extreme Battery Saver mode. This is partially due to the fact that the 6a learns its user’s favourite apps, to restrict power usage on less used apps or turn them off completely. Despite the large battery, Google claims that the Pixel 6a charges quickly, “with just a few minutes of charging, your phone gets hours of power” with 18W charging support.
The 6a includes the Google Tensor, the same chip as in Pixel 6 Pro, and includes an Octa-core CPU and a Mali-G78 MP20 GPU. However, the smartphone doesn’t have a microSD card slot and boasts only 128GB of onboard storage. Users can also make use of Live Translate which can translate text in real-time along with Assistant voice typing.
