The OnePlus Nord CE 5G has just launched with Three Ireland, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 68MP camera in a triple camera array. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the latest device from the company to launch in the Nord series of smartphones, a segment that’s more focused on the budget end of things. Following on from the hype of the OnePlus 9 series, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G aims to be a more affordable smartphone with everything that you need and nothing that you don’t.
“CE” stands for Core Edition, which OnePlus says means that they took the core values of the original Nord and put them into a smartphone, making the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. When I tested the OnePlus Nord (alongside the OnePlus Buds), I was greatly impressed. This device retails for €339 from Three Ireland, or you can get it on bill pay with no additional payment required. Three Customers can potentially upgrade to this particular device through their already-existing contracts if they’re due for one, or they can pay outright to upgrade instead.
OnePlus says this is the slimmest phone that they’ve ever made, at 7.9mm thick. It’s also plastic on the back and sides to save on costs, though also means it’s slightly more protected if you drop it as a result.
It’s worth keeping in mind that on this phone as well, there’s no official water resistance or wireless charging either, and with the primary 64MP camera that you get, you also get an 8MP ultra-wide and a monochrome sensor. Finally, the front-facing camera sensor is a single 16MP shooter. A great part of the phone is its 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel though, which helps to make it feel a lot faster and smoother than with a 60Hz panel.
One of my personal favourite features of any OnePlus device is the fast charging, and this device includes Warp Charge 30T, meaning it will charge the 4,500mAh battery from 0% to 70% in just half an hour. It comes with Android 11 out of the box too, running the company’s OxygenOS.
