Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet were announced earlier this year for the Nintendo Switch for November 18 2022. We’ve had Pokémon Legends; Arceus released in late January of this year, and Scarlet/Violet are due to be released just roughly two years after Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were released in November 2019. Now another trailer has dropped for the two games, and it goes into more detail of what to expect from generation nine.
Here’s what we know so far; We’re being whisked away to the Paldea Region and as the trailer states, we can get lost in the abundant nature, rich culture, the people, and of course, the Pokémon. Our game’s mascots are Legendary Koraidon and Miraidon. Speaking of, our new generation nine starter trio for this journey are:
-
- Sprigatito; a lively little grass-type cat. Sprigatito’s ability is Overgrow, This move beefs up grass-type moves when the pokémon’s HP is less than favourable in battle.
- Fuecoco; a fiery little croc. Fuecoco’s ability Blaze can boost fire-type moves when the pokémon’s HP is low.
- Quaxly; a brave and bold little duckling. Quaxly’s ability is Torrent, and just like the other starters, Quaxly’s ability can boost water-type moves when you’re low on HP.
So, we have our grass, fire, and water-type starters as usual and their respective abilities. Each of their abilities gives them a well-needed boost when it’s most needed. This new region seems to be a smooth transition between the wilderness and civilization; with Pokémon roaming the streets and accompanying their trainers wherever they go, as well as being above and below us in the skies and seas.
What sets Scarlet and Violet apart from each other is that there have been reports that you’ll be enrolled in a different academy and have a different outfit depending on which game you play. Regardless of the game you choose, however, you’ll still come across the same friend and rival; Nemona. Also, coming in as a first for the series, you can traverse the world alongside three other trainers in multiplayer!
Personally speaking, I’ve been following the Pokémon series since I was a tot and my favourite plush toy ever was a li’l Charmander teddy. Pokémon means nostalgia for me so I’m very excited to share the gaming experience with my brothers and absolutely annihilate them and crush their spirits like any good Poké trainer would! I’m rooting for my Sprigatito personally, but we’ll see how we fare. Nonetheless, I’m super excited to see where us trainers are taken next!
