SISTEM is a conference run by students, for students, and we attended the conference last year at University College Dublin. SISTEM 2021 will be taking place on February 20th, 2021! Speakers include Cassidy Williams, Dr. Rebecca Pope, Stephen Howell, Sarah Cunningham, and many more. Several students will be giving talks as well.
What is SISTEM?
SISTEM stands for Student’s Inter-Society Tech & Enterprise Meetup. It is an annual tech event that was started by the DCU Redbrick Society. It was originally organised by James McDermott and Lorcan Boyle in late 2017, proposed by Boyle as an inter-college tech-conference. We had the pleasure of having a short interview with James McDermott last year following the conference. The first SISTEM event, SISTEM 2018, had 61 attendees. It was hosted in the Trinity Innovation Academy and hosted speakers and workshops from various big-name companies such as Google, Microsoft, and SAP. Overall, the event was a success and implied an increased interest in years to come.
Last year’s SISTEM 2020 was held in University College Dublin, just off the N11 in Belfield. It was the product of the combined work by 9 different Computer Science societies across the country.

SISTEM 2021
Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s SISTEM will be taking place via Hopin, and you can purchase an attendance ticket for €5. There are 23 sessions expected to take place throughout the day, which includes workshops, lightning talks, and panels. There’s something for everybody, and we would encourage you to check out their website to learn more! There are already more than 250 registered attendees, and with a week to go, it’s likely that there will be many more. I had a great time at last year’s event, and I expect SISTEM 2021 to be even better.
