Xiaomi is one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world that you’ve probably never even heard of. Xiaomi is huge in India, huge in China and they’re officially launching in Ireland in the future thanks to a partnership with Three. For those who aren’t sure what kind of company Xiaomi is, they’re known globally for their dirt-cheap Android smartphones. The company’s marketing strategy involved selling devices without profit to boost their brand name’s visibility and to point customers towards their other products. They’re taking that strategy to the extreme with the €300 Xiaomi Pocophone F1. If you’re worried about Xiaomi being a shady company or whatever, they have worked directly with Google in the past on multiple smartphones.
The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is one of the fastest Android flagships to date
The Pocophone F1 was probably one of the worst kept secrets in the tech world prior to its release. It’s got the best processor in an Android phone to date (a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845), a whopping 6GB of RAM and a full HD display. It’s possibly the fastest Android phone available right now. It’s not officially available in Ireland, but it will be in many other parts of Europe. Importing it certainly won’t be too difficult come August 27th when it’s expected to release in France.
But what do you get for your money? A full HD LCD display is present alongside a dual camera setup on the back. A 4,000 mAh battery is also in tow with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. You get dual-SIM support as well if that’s of any use to you.
And that’s not all. Other features include an enhanced cooling system for long gaming periods, a headphone jack, USB-C charging port and the company’s own MIUI software on top of Android Pie. It’s a phone which absolutely destroys any offerings from companies like OnePlus and ASUS in terms of price to performance ratio. Of course, there are some cutbacks including the lack of NFC and the inclusion of an LCD panel, but those are all easy to look past when looking at a phone that competes with something nearly twice the price.
The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is not actually available for purchase yet, but the company has announced the price in Indian Rupees and it is cheap. It starts at a price of Rs. 20,999 for the 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage model. That equates to around €258 once converted. It’s insanely cheap. That is typical Xiaomi though, something the company has been known for doing for a while now.
